The story behind the story

Niko sitting on his bed holding up Rodney and the Magic Toilet Seat, teddy on his lap — The co-author, mid-story.

By day, Demetrios Joannou designs aircraft as an aerospace systems engineer. By night, he dives into a far more unpredictable world: storytime with his four-year-old son, Niko.

That's where Rodney was born: in playful bedtime stories and scribbled ideas that quickly grew into something bigger. Niko is officially credited as co-author (and Chief Snack Operations Officer). Rico, the family labradoodle, made it into the book too.

Their hope is simple: to spark joy, curiosity and a love of storytelling in children, and in the grown-ups who read with them.
